Councillor Joe Reilly

Cllr Joe Reilly is considered one of the most experienced and hard working councillors in the town by constituents, political opponents and council staff alike. Joe has also represented Sinn Féin at general elections securing over 6,000 votes, the highest vote for Sinn Féin in Meath since the 1920s.

Joe, a native of the Commons Road, Navan now lives in Bohermeen. Educated in Scoil Mhuire and the Vocational School he joined Sinn Fein in 1970. Joe was elected to Navan Town Council in 1994 and to Meath County Council in 1999. He was re-elected to both Navan Town Council and Meath County Council ever since.

Cllr Joe Reilly is the archetypal strong community activist on which much of Sinn Féin’s recent growth has been built on over the last number of years. Joe is a member of the board of Directors of a large number of community and business organisations such as, Solstice Arts Centre, Navan Community and Development Organisation (Navan CDP) Navan Childcare Ltd, NTW, Meath Youth Federation, Navan Enterprise Centre, Meath VEC and Navan Leisure Link.

He is also a very active member of the North East Regional Health Forum, the Planning and Economic Development Strategic Policy Committee of Meath Co Council, Navan Town Council Representative to AMAI and the Knockarley Community Group Kentstown.

Cllr Joe Reilly has also helped to found and support groups such as, Navan Active Retirement Group, Chogherboy Community Council, Meath Artists Association, Féile na bPáistí, Support Navan Hospital Campaign Group and Navan Career Start.

Joe has held numerous leadership positions within Sinn Féin most notably as a negotiator during the Good Friday Agreement. Recently he has been appointed as the Cathaoirleach of a number of committees on the Economy, the New Irish and Climate Change.
