Sinn Féin Protest At Navan Hospital Closures

Hospital Protest

Members of Meath Sinn Féin held an impromptu protest against the closure of the Orthopaedic Department of Our Lady's Navan which will result in the cancellation of approximately 500 operations. Sinn Féin members distributed 2000 leaflets in the space of an hour outside Navan Shopping Centre.
Councillor Joe Reilly addressed the crowd saying "Once again Fianna Fáil cuts hit Our Lady's Hospital. Once again they target some of the most vulnerable in our society. The vast majority of people who's operation will be delayed are the elderly and infirm. These people will now spend Christmas in pain. I am appealing to all of you present to let this Government know that you will not accept these appalling cuts. The reality is that these cuts are not necessary and could have been paid for had not been for the funding of private hospitals and the so-called co-location programme which only benefits developers."
